Also known as the sun vitamin, it may be produced by the body under mild sun exposure or consumed through foods or supplements.

The adequate intake of vitamin D is important to the control of calcium and phosphorus absorption, bone maintenance and healthy teeth, and it provides a protector effect against several diseases and conditions such as cancer, type 1 diabetes multiple sclerosis.
