Folic acid is important for whoever is trying to get pregnant or during pregnancy, mainly during the three first months of pregnancy. At this time it is advisable to ingest 1mg of folic acid a day. However, your physician may advise you to increase this dosage up to 5mg per day.

Food contains acid folic under the form of folate or vitamin B9, which is later synthetized in the organism. It is available synthetized in different pharmaceutical or dietary forms as folic acid, being normally prescribed as a food supplement.

All green leaf vegetables have a high concentration of folate, mainly broccoli, cabbage, lettuce and spinach.

If you are considering getting pregnant consult with your nutritionist to begin as soon as possible your balanced diet.
