Sweet potato has a glycemic low-index, meaning it is of slow digestion, it brings sustained non-fast energy so it provides a longer sensation of satiety, same to say you don't feel hungry so soon. Because of all this, it helps maintaining a proper weight or fighting overweight. The process also benefits from the fact this tuber can gradually free glucose (sugar) resulting that our body is not tempted to store this energy under the form of body fats.
