BREAD STILL HAS TOO MUCH SALT!

BREAD STILL HAS TOO MUCH SALT!

Bread is mainly composed of flour and water, and so it is not forcefully caloric. However it is generally thought to be responsible for putting on weight. Being starchy, it turns to be a slow sugar. Eating bread in the morning helps to get to lunch time without the necessity of eating "little snacks" in between.

As a nutritionist I may say that it is much more what we put inside the bread, what we accompany it with, that makes us fat.
The important thing is to ban those too fatty elements such as lots of butter or plenty of generous marmelade, or the fat slices of cheese and ham, chorizos and smoked hams, and deep the bread in your plate to get what's left of sauce.
The maximum level of salt in bread – 1,4 grams of salt by 100 grams of bread – established in 2009 was a good measure taken for the preservation of Portuguese people's health, because they are bread lovers and the gradual descent for the years to come must also deserve our approval.
It's just a matter of food reeducation and change of behaviour habits that will allow us to live longer and in better health conditions.
